Autism Therapy in the Greater Toronto Area

Helping Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

There are many different types of therapies out there for children with Autism.  This is beneficial because children based on their development and where they are on the Autism spectrum can have different outcomes to the same type of therapy.

A website called MyAutismTeam, a social network of over 28,000 parents with autistic children, asked their members what therapy worked best for their autistic child. They found the following in the top 4 results:

1. Occupational Therapy – 39%

2. Speech Therapy – 27%

3. ABA Therapy – 15%

4. Social Skills Classes – 8%

Additionally, many of the parents had tried multiple types of therapies.  In fact, they are constantly looking for any and all ways that they can help their child control his repetitive behaviours or improve his self-care, social and communication skills.

These therapies can be effective, however none of them truly get to the core cause of the problem: Connectivity in the brain.

Scientists believe that Autism and the other Autistic Spectrum Disorders (Asperger’s Syndrome and PDD-NOS) are caused by poor connectivity within and between major brain structures.

Therefore if you want to achieve the most effective results for children with Autism, you need a solution that is focused on the brain.

This is where Maxi Mind comes in.

Improving Connectivity in the Brain

The Maxi Mind Brain Training SystemTM is based on decades of research into Neuroplasticity, the discovery that specialized activities can stimulate the brain to grow and develop at any time in life.

Maxi Mind activities provide a whole-brain workout that strengthens connections within and between the major brain structures that are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders – the Cerebral Cortex, Amygdala, Hippocampus, Basal Ganglia, Corpus Collosum, Brain Stem and Cerebellum.

This results in more effective and efficient signaling and that makes for better physical coordination, emotional regulation, communication and relationships.

How Our Brain Training Works

The primary element in Maxi Mind’s toolkit for addressing Autism Spectrum Disorders is the renowned Integrated Listening System (iLs), used by over 3,000 doctors, therapists and educators in 15 countries. Maxi Mind’s neuroeducational specialists are all trained and certified on the iLs method. In fact, we are the largest organization using the technique in Canada and have successfully treated hundreds of clients.

The method involves coaching clients on the performance of sensory integration exercises together with specific auditory stimulation while listening to specially engineered classical music delivered through bone conduction headphones.

The Evidence Speaks for Itself

A third-party survey of 144 therapists who had treated over 1,300 Autistic children with iLs found that the method was highly effective considering 24 different measures of physical, behavioural, emotional, social, language and academic functioning.

For these and dozens of other results including case studies, media coverage, medical expert endorsement see this link.

You too can typically expect improved sensory processing, motor skills and balance, better behaviour, energy level and mood, and improved language, academic and social skills. And all this through music and exercise with a personal coach.
