The inability for emotional regulation is holding your child back

What is Emotional Regulation
Emotional regulation is the ability to manage and respond to emotional experiences in a healthy and constructive way. It involves recognizing, understanding, and adjusting emotions to achieve desired outcomes, whether that’s staying calm under pressure, expressing feelings appropriately, or bouncing back from setbacks.
Effective emotional regulation helps children navigate challenging situations, maintain relationships, and perform well in school and at home.
Why Emotional Regulation is Critical to Your Child’s Development
Emotional regulation is a key component to every child’s development because it is the main driving force behind behavioural regulation. When emotions are unstable and out of control, the child’s behaviour will also be erratic and out of control. If they are able to learn how to control their emotions, then their behaviour will follow suit.
The inability to regulate emotions is often linked with children with Autism, ADHD and Learning Disabilities.

How to Achieve Emotional Regulation
Kids with these problems have trouble responding to psychological intervention until they’ve had a neurodevelopmental intervention because it’s more of an issue with neurology than psychology neurology. When neural networks are stronger emotional regulation emergers and they will be able to achieve the following:
- Awareness: Recognizing emotions as they arise.
- Labeling: Identifying and naming emotions accurately.
- Cognitive Reappraisal: Reframing thoughts to change emotional responses.
- Impulse Control: Resisting immediate reactions in favor of thoughtful responses.
- Mindfulness: Staying present and accepting emotions without judgment.
Healthy Coping Strategies: Using techniques like deep breathing, exercise, or talking to someone for support.
Getting to the Root of the Problem
Rather than focusing on their behaviour, which is often not effective, you need to address the root problem and help with strengthening the connections in their brain that allow emotional regulation.
Emotional regulation occurs when the neural networks in the child’s brain are strengthened so the cool brain (ability to think & react in an appropriate way) is able to talk to the hot brain (where the emotions that come up are experienced).
When these connections are strong, the child will be able to react calmly, be less impulsive and more resilient. Brain research using fmri scans have shown that when the neural networks improve, the child’s behaviour improves as well. Learning becomes easier and the child is able to develop at a normal rate.

The Maxi Mind ProgramTM Gets Results
Maxi Mind uses an activity-based approach that strengthens connections in the brain, specifically in the areas responsible for attention, language, learning, emotional control and social behaviour.
Maxi Mind Brain Training™ capitalizes on the new science of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change itself, in order to effectively address challenges with emotional regulation and ultimately their ability to learn and develop.
Maxi Mind Brain activities are designed to strengthen those weaker connections and re-balance the brain’s energy. And as far as the kids are concerned, the best part is… it’s fun!

Our son is extremely intelligent but he couldn’t concentrate for any length of time. As a result his classroom experience was a disaster and the only way he could learn is with a tutor.
Now after two months in your program we are seeing a tremendous improvement in his interest and ability in learning. Overall it’s very refreshing to see how he has matured. Thank you so much!
